Rose Theatre

This Week

Starting Friday (1/15), THE BIG SHORT moves to the Rosebud, giving those under 21 a chance to see the movie that's been selling out every show. STAR WARS moves up to the Starlight Room, and The Revenant heads to the Rose! This weekend THE REVENANT swept the Golden Globes, winning Best Drama, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), and Best Director (Alejandro Inarritu). And I was very pleased to see that Brie Larson took home the award for Best Actress in the riveting drama Room, one of my favorite films of the year. And that Aaron Sorkin and Kate Winslet received deserving awards for Steve Jobs.

We've had to move the February 7th Berlin Philharmonic concert to April 23rd, at the same time. The Philharmonic has decided to include a brand new 45-minute documentary about the orchestra's work on the Beethoven cycle of nine symphonies.  This documentary will proceed the concert presentation.  If you've already purchased tickets, they will be accepted in April. We are thrilled to be screening such tremendous classical music at the Rose. You can learn more on our website.

Haskell Wexler and Vilmos Zsigmond, two of the finest cinematographers to leave us with indelible images from the 1970s and '80s recently passed away.  Wexler was renowned as one of the most inventive cinematographers in Hollywood and an outspoken political firebrand.  With two Academy Awards, he was a prominent member of the artistic elite.  His credits include MEDIUM COOL, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF, BOUND FOR GLORY, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR and COMING HOME.  Vilmos Zsigmond was a Hungarian-born cinematographer known for creating dramatic, story-propelling images in muted colors and natural light.  His credits include CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, MCCABE AND MRS. MILLER, EASY RIDER, PAPER MOON, SHAMPOO, GHOSTBUSTERS, SAY ANYTHING, CINDERLLA LIBERTY and HEAVEN'S GATE.

This week and next week we're featuring from Iggy's of Bainbridge Island, their Golden Elixir Kombucha on tap, with turmeric, ginger root, lemon, cayenne and guayusa.  It's raw and probiotic.
