If one is inclined to believe prognosticators, then Allison Janney will be going home this Sunday evening with a gold statue named Oscar. I would like to believe these soothsayers, as I have always appreciated the work of this fine actress. From BIG NIGHT, THE ICE STORM, PRIMARY COLORS, AMERICAN BEAUTY, JUNO, and as C.J. Cregg on THE WEST WING - which I watch over-and-over - Ms. Janney has a gift for acting, and we're the fortunate beneficiaries. Her role as Tonya Harding's tough-as-nails mother in I, TONYA is an Oscar-worthy performance, as are all the performances by this year's nominees. I, TONYA opens in the Starlight Room this Friday, March 2nd. "Allison Janney is unforgettable." -Los Angeles Daily News
Raise your hand if you're a fan of Aardman Animation. Ah ha, just as I suspected, legions of loyal fans. The creators of WALLACE AND GROMIT, CHICKEN RUN, THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT, SHAUN THE SHEEP and others are back with another witty, pun-infused, stop-motion, claymation treat - EARLY MAN. Their infectious brand of humor begins this Friday in the Rosebud. "Gromit, that's it! Cheese! We'll go somewhere where there's cheese!"
Turnout has been great for Oscar Week, which continues through this Thursday, with showings of GET OUT, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, COCO, MOLLY'S GAME (with a great script by Aaron Sorkin), LOVING VINCENT and WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. REBELS ON POINTE has also been well attended; It concludes in the Starlight Room on Thursday, and then plays Saturday and Sunday only in the Rosebud. And THE SHAPE OF WATER will be holding over for another week, moving to the Rosebud this Friday.
