Rocky’s Review
Cruz, Cruise & The Last Waltz

Winner of the Cannes' Directors' Fortnight Award, A CHIARA is Jonas Carpignano's bristling, observant film about Chiara, the middle daughter in what seems like an ordinary middle-class family in Calabria, Italy. She gradually comes to discover that her close-knit family is not all that it seems. As she gets closer to the truth about her mysteriously missing father - and the crime syndicate that controls her region - she is forced to decide what kind of future she wants for herself. "A touching, powerful film." -The Film Stage. It opens in the Starlight Room this Friday.

Movie star egos rule in OFFICIAL COMPETITION, a sly satire about movie-making that also manages to be a showcase for the comedic chops of Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez. The three are commissioned by a millionaire to make a movie together, and they are clearly having a blast in the process, but it's Cruz who truly dazzles. "Cruz, with her ginger frizzy locks, proves that she's a comic behemoth." -Little White Lies. It opens in the Starlight Room this Friday.

It started as a concert. It became a celebration. And we last played it in 2016. Join an unparalleled lineup of rock luminaries as they celebrate The Band's historic 1976 Thanksgiving Day farewell performance. Directed by Martin Scorsese, THE LAST WALTZ is not only "the most beautiful rock film ever made," (The New Yorker)..."it's one of the most important cultural events of the last two decades!" (Rolling Stone). Featuring Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Dr. John, Ronnie Hawkins, Neil Diamond, Levon Helm, Muddy Waters and more. Plays Saturday night in the Rose, and Sunday night in the Starlight. All tickets just $10.

Flyboy Tom Cruise is back for week number five in TOP GUN: MAVERICK. He kickstarted the summer in a big way, and now that it's actually summer, he returns once again.

After its one-week, in-person engagement at the Rose, HIT THE ROAD is now streaming online in the Rose Film Library.
