Greetings Rose Fans, In lieu of being able to open NOMADLAND in the Rose because of our closure, I decided to read the book that it's based upon by award-winning journalist Jessica Bruder. This non-fiction account of the underbelly and resilience of the American economy has now become a fictionalized story starring Frances McDormand, and directed by Chloe Zhao (THE RIDER). The reviews for it are glowing, and I can't wait to see it. But apparently the 44th President of the United States has already seen it, and has declared it one of his favorite movies of 2020. Mr. Obama also singled out MARTIN EDEN (streaming through the Rose). You can order the book through the Imprint Bookstore. "Nomadland [is] one of the most accomplished films of the year, an emotional tour de force that moves you but never imposes or manipulates." -News.com
And speaking of books, THE LIBRARY THAT DOLLY BUILT is a positive, uplifting look at Dolly Parton's work to encourage literacy among young children. The Imagination Library began as a gift for children in Dolly's Tennessee hometown, but is now active in all 50 states and 5 countries, gifting 1.7 million free books to children every month. The movie begins streaming today, 12/23.
Ludwig van Beethoven has accompanied director Niki Stein since childhood. His new film, LOUIS VAN BEETHOVEN tells the story of the young genius and the life - familial and political - that challenged him. As one would expect, it's a sweeping, historical epic that brings to life Beethoven's extraordinary talent. It begins streaming today, 12/23.
Our new limited edition sweatshirt became a little less limited as orders poured in last week. As well as keeping you comfy and cozy - now that Winter is officially here - your purchase helps to support the Rose during this closure. We have a few left if you haven't ordered one yet. Thank you.
