Rocky’s Review
EO & Otto

Director Jerzy Skolimowski puts us in the perspective of his four-legged hero, EO. EO's journey speaks to the world around us, an equine protagonist boldly pointing out societal ills, and serving as a warning to the dangers of neglect and inaction, all while on a quest for freedom. During his trek across the Polish and Italian countryside, EO the donkey experiences cruelty and kindness in equal measure, all the while observing the follies and triumphs of humankind. It is a visually inventive journey. Listen to this NPR review by John Powers. "EO is an astonishment and so too is this wild, boldly expressionistic movie." -The New York Times

A MAN CALLED OVE was a popular Swedish hit at the Rose in 2015 and a New York Times bestselling novel. And now Tom Hanks and director Marc Forster (FINDING NEVERLAND, STRANGER THAN FICTION, THE KITE RUNNER) have put an American spin on it in A MAN CALLED OTTO. Otto Anderson is a grump who no longer sees purpose in his life following the loss of his wife. But the arrival of new neighbors shows Otto that family can sometimes be found in unexpected places.

Matilda Wormwood is a little girl with big curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination - and the worst parents in the world. Where they are loud, selfish and unkind she is a quiet observer, thinking up small and cheeky acts of rebellion and revenge. ROALD DAHL'S MATILDA THE MUSICAL is an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage to help others change their stories. "Matilda dances exuberantly onto the screen and into your heart." -Washington Post
