Rocky’s Review
Fleabag

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is brilliant. She's a great writer and a great actress, and if you're not familiar with FLEABAG, her Amazon series, treat yourself this weekend to her fabulous, award-winning one-woman play which was the foundation for the TV series. And if you are unfamiliar with her work, heed this caveat, her writing is "filthy, funny, snarky and touching." -Daily Telegraph. "Funny, vibrant, and blunt as a hammerhead." -New York Magazine. "Legitimately hilarious." -The New Yorker

Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig cafe struggling to stay afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose. FLEABAG plays Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 AM.

And just in time for Halloween, THE LIGHTHOUSE,  a beautifully filmed, black and white, creepy, fever dream of a film with two power-house performances from Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. Director Robert Eggers meticulously builds tension and mystery that seeps into your bones, and won't let go. It's an hypnotic, hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and a mysterious New England island in the 1890s. "Pattinson is superb but it's Dafoe who emerges as a giant with a towering, unforgettable performance." -Detroit News

HARRIET is the extraordinary story of Harriet Tubman, and her escape from slavery and transformation into one of America's greatest freedom fighters. Her courage and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history. "The intensity and the lyrical fervor of Kasi Lemmons's direction lend this historical drama, about Harriet Tubman's escape from slavery and her work with the Underground Railroad the exalted energy of secular scripture." -The New Yorker

Who knew that a movie about mushrooms would be as popular as it is? Not I. FANTASTIC FUNGI is holding over in the Rose for another week. This Thursday - Halloween - is your last opportunity to see THE BOWMAKERS, AQUARELA and OFFICIAL SECRETS.

Coming next week: PAIN AND GLORY, THE PROPOSAL, MADAMA BUTTERFLY, RAYMONDA and MEET ME AT THE MOVIES.
