Rocky’s Review
Michael Moore, Mustang, Maggie Smith and more

The Oscars may be over, but we still have some great Oscar nominees coming to the Rose and the Starlight Room. While SON OF SAUL (coming March 11th) won the award for Best Foreign Language Film, one of my favorite recent movies - MUSTANG - opens in the Rosebud this Friday, March 4th. The story takes place in a small village in Turkey, but it's a French production and was France's submission for the Academy Award. I strongly encourage you to see it. And it has a most unexpected, touching ending. Not surprising for Port Townsend, Michael Moore's WHERE TO INVADE NEXT, was a big hit this past weekend, turning people away at nearly every show; we're moving it into the Rose auditorium this Friday.

And along with THE LADY IN THE VAN, which moves to the Starlight Room Friday, our movie schedule this weekend includes two showings of THE MESSENGER, an incredibly beautiful and an incredibly important documentaryabout songbirds, and the peril they face from our changing environment.

My daughter attended the Metropolitan Opera in New York last month, and she tells me that the experience of watching the Rose's Met Opera series is almost better than the real thing.  You can catch the live HD simulcast of MANON LESCAUT this Saturday beginning at 9:55 a.m.

And finally, I'm pleased to announce a special offer for Rose members: flash your member card at the Tin Brick, across from the Rose on Taylor St., and receive $2 off your pizza! We'll be announcing more partner business discounts soon.
